Memorable Quotes

March 16, 2009

Some quotes are memorable. There was one such quote which I still remember till date which had a huge influence on my thought process. The essence was something like – “You are only responsible for whatever happens around you”. Initially I was glaring with disbelief. It took quite sometime for the wisdom in the quote to sink in me. But when it did, it changed my whole thought process and I am glad about it. So, I am presenting some quotes like that which was forwarded by a friend through email over the years. This time I have linked her blog. And yes, all the credit for searching these quotes and sending them to us go to her. But according to the above quote, I can also take credit for good things that happen around me 🙂

“While one person hesitates because he feels inferior, the other is busy making mistakes and becoming superior”

“It is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not to deserve them”

“It is far more impressive when others discover your good qualities without your help”

“The price one pays for pursuing any profession or calling is an intimate knowledge of its ugly side”

“Believe everything or doubt everything. Both ways save us from thinking”

“A hen is only an egg’s way of making another egg”

“Talent hits a target where no one else can hit. Genius hits a target where no one else can see”

“Each success only buys an admission ticket to a more difficult problem”

“If you want something you never had, do something that you have never done”

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends”

“Example is not the main thing in influencing others, it is the only thing”

  3. : )nice ones..I had a huge collection of quotes..I used to write different quotes each day,on the top end of our classroom board, all four years 🙂 Initially, all of them used to tease me,as times progressed, teachers and classmates looked forward each day to read my quotes and if i didn’t they (including teachers) would ask me ‘Why isn’t there anything today”..Ah,how i miss those good old days..You know,it was indeed tedious to find new quotes every other day.. I would write down quotes in a book i had for that purpose and when i am in scarcity for new ones,I would write something that was written a year or so ago,but interestingly, atleast 5 of my friends would recall it..I felt so happy doing this.. Infact by i ahve got embarassed many a times as i didn’t knew the double meanings of some.. They,boy-friends- would giggle and we girls would start fuming our head thinking why they are laughing.finally someone will comeup with the double meaning and whole day we will be in jeopardy as I can neither ud the quote as then boys will understand that we understood the double emaning and this will make us more embarassed..looooooooll .

One such eg is ‘Lubricate the engine of life with prayers and it is bound to run smoothly and happily” (something like that) Gee,stupid boys came up with double meaning… .I love my college life.. 🙂

Oopps,I ranted a lot..Kya kare,my college life-quotes episode- was indeed lovely and i treasue all those moments and now your post made me nostalgic…**sigh***

    • Writing quotes on the board for four years? That should have been a huge task! I started ‘collecting’ the quotes only from my third year. I still add new ones to that book. But we would like to know your favorite quotes too. Why don’t you put it up on your blog sometime? I am sure you had some very favorite ones!

  7. brilliat quotes, most of them are really well known and – every time I read them I think “yes! that is it”. This is the value of a good quote 🙂

    • Profound thoughts in simple lines. Actually we can express the same opinion through a story also. But quotes are also equally effective and impacting.

  8. A hen is only an egg’s way of making another egg – This was the best one! 🙂
One quote which really influenced me was – Always be good. Life moves in circles. What goes around comes around.

    • That circular circumvention of life is so true. There is one more quote like that: “Be good to people when you go up. Because, you need to meet them again when you come down!”

  10. Its true isn’t it? Some times we feel better if we work on something which we are not passionate about! Otherwise we might lose the passion!! Anyways, it is important to change priorities and take new steps in life – including changing the things we are passionate about.
