Thought provoking Quotes

October 20, 2008

There are certain quotations which do not advice. They do not preach. They are not judgmental.  They don’t claim that they are the Truth. But still you would have to think about each of them at least twice. The wisdom ingrained in them is sometimes not visible openly. That’s why I have categorized them as thought provoking. I have been getting the following quotes from a friend through email (The subject is Good Morning, though and with a neat picture). Some of them have indeed made my day, not just the morning. Have a look at a few selected ones that I have liked over the years.

“The true mystery of the world is the visible; not the invisible”

“Money is a very excellent servant; but a terrible master”

“An angry man is again angry with himself when he returns to reason”

“Daring ideas are like chessmen moved forward. They may be beaten but they may start a winning game”

“Anger is a condition in which the tongue works faster than the mind”

“Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning”

“It’s not what you are called, but what you answer to”

“Putting off an easy thing makes it hard”

“Having enemies’ means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life”

“Failure is not falling down; but staying down”

“By learning to obey, you will know how to command”

“To be content with a little is hard; to be content with much is impossible”

“If you wish to travel far and fast, try traveling light, taking off all your burdens”

“LUCK….. stands for Labouring Under Correct Knowledge”

“Intellectuals solve problems. Geniuses prevent them”

“The future will be exactly like the past; only far more expensive”

“Hardwork has a future pay-off; Laziness pays-off now”

And how about this one to close: “Cheer up, the worst is yet to come” !!

PS: I’ll try to post more such quotes, but at irregular intervals. But the worst is yet to come – so cheer up people 🙂

  2. Thanks Vishesh. I have been wanting to read some good quotes always…. and it was good luck that I was in the forward list of this friend. There are some other very good quotes too… maybe I should make the list shorter and more selective next time.

  3. Surely thought provoking quotes. And I loved this one:
‘“Failure is not falling down; but staying down”’

  4. A very good collection dude… Living as u wish is easy, but living acc tp these quotes is tuff… if the way u live is in accordance wit the quotes, then its luck – Labour Under Correct Knowledge… 🙂

  5. There are many good quotes on failure that I have read. One of them is “Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm” – Winston Churchill. If you have read what all Mr. Churchill has accomplished in his life, including the victory in the second world war, you are actually humbled by the above quote by him!

You do put in a lot of effort even in your comments – Su. I personally don’t think it is tough to live according to certain moral standards… it all depends on what you are willing to let go, and what you are not… Otherwise it’s the same.

  6. the knowledge about what to let go and what not will come by maturity and experience. unless you are in an atmosphere where lot of effort is put into thinking, we should not expect LUCK from a young age!

  7. You would be surprised at people over 70 years contemplating as to which is the best way to live life! Everyone seems either totally convinced or totally confused about their way of living life. I have, on the contrary, seen very young people so sure about their thoughts and activities. When we are exposed to both sides, and we are unsure about which side to side, there are so many elders and volumes and volumes of books to consult to.
